Global — 2025
A new forecast released by BloombergNEF (BNEF) shows that global energy-storage installations are on track to hit another record in 2025, with annual additions expected to reach 92 GW / 247 GWh. This represents a 23% increase compared to 2024, driven by rapid deployment of renewables and the rising need for grid flexibility.
Global energy-storage capacity (excluding pumped hydro) could reach 2 TW / 7.3 TWh by 2035.
China, the United States, and Europe remain the top three markets for new BESS construction.
Solar-plus-storage projects account for more than 60% of new installations worldwide.
Falling LFP battery prices and maturing BESS technology are accelerating adoption even in developing markets.
Energy storage is shifting from a supporting role to becoming essential infrastructure for modern power grids. As renewable penetration rises globally, batteries are increasingly relied upon to stabilize frequency, manage peak demand, and replace fossil-fuel-based peaker plants.
