Global — late 2025
Data from recent market tracking show that global grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) deployments surged by 36% during the first nine months of 2025 compared with the same period in 2024. A total of 49.4 GW / 136.5 GWh of new BESS capacity was commissioned over this period.
In September 2025 alone, the industry added 4,637 MW / 11,466 MWh of new BESS capacity — continuing a strong monthly deployment trend.
Why It Matters
This sharp rise in battery storage deployment signals that BESS is no longer fringe technology — it is becoming central infrastructure for power grids globally. As more renewables come online, storage is essential for ensuring reliability, balancing supply/demand, and enabling wider renewable integration.
